The price you set for your printed book will likely depend on a number of factors, including:
- the average price for similar books in your genre,
- your audience's budget and preferences,
- the book's production cost,
- how you plan to distribute the book
If you're using BookBaby's Print On Demand Distribution we'll set a minimum allowable retail price for your print book - the lowest price that will cover printing costs, account for the retailer's/wholesaler's percentage, and guarantee at least $1 in royalties to the author. You can set your printed book's retail price to any amount equal to or greater than the minimum.
You can find the minimum allowable retail price for your book using our Royalty Calculator. After saving a project quote that includes Print On Demand Distribution, you'll find the Royalty Calculator in your Publishing Project Center. It's the first page of the Distribution Information section. You can find your Project Center by logging into your bookbaby.com account, navigating to your Open Quotations, and clicking Continue Project. From there you'll click the green button under Distribution Information.
To see your minimum allowable retail price, enter $0 into the box and hit the Calculate Royalty button. Entering a price equal to or greater than the minimum will show you your royalty amount for BookBaby's Bookshop and for sales through the retail and wholesale partners in BookBaby's distribution network.
